Inbody 570 Analysis
“Sugar and spice and everything nice, that’s what little girls are made of. Frogs and snails and puppy-dog’s tail, that is what little boys are made of.” That nursery rhyme sounds so sweet, but the truth is we are actually “fearfully and wonderfully” made of water (intracellular and extracellular), muscle mass, fat and then sprinkled with some minerals and electrolytes- that is what everyone is made of. Resurrection Health has recently purchased a new device, the InBody 570 Analyzer, to assist clients on their wellness journey. The InBody 570 is cutting-edge technology that can help us understand and break down the proportion of our total water content, skeletal muscle mass and total body fat that exists inside this amazing machine we call our body. The information provided by this non-invasive tool is invaluable in understanding our physical make-up and setting goals for overall health, fitness and wellness.
For the past few years, BMI (Basic Metabolic Index) has been all the rage in healthcare and in the world of fitness. The problem with BMI is that it only measures height and weight and this number can be misleading. For example, it is possible to have a person with high skeletal muscle mass and low-fat percentage have a high BMI. A BMI is simply dividing the weight by the height, so it is ineffective in providing the full picture of wellness or goal setting for improvement.
On the other hand, the InBody 570 Analyzer can provide a much more detailed analysis of one’s total body make-up and this knowledge can assist in helping your body function more efficiently by improving your metabolism. This is great news-there is a way to improve your metabolism! The InBody 570 provides a “positive feedback loop” as your body can work more efficiently in burning calories and fat. So, get ready to jump into the loop.
Our bodies are made up of two types of water: intracellular water and extracellular water. The combination of these two types is called “total body water”. InBody 570 results can tell you if your internal fluids are off balance by showing you the exact amount of intracellular and extracellular water in your body.
We are also made up of bones and muscle which is labeled “dry lean body mass” on the InBody 570mresult sheet. Dry lean mass is the same as SMM (skeletal muscle mass). A high SMM is key to fitness as our muscle burns fat/calories efficiently.
The third ingredient in our bodies is called “body fat mass”. InBody 570 tells you the percentage of body fat (PBF) you are carrying. InBody 570 can also break down your percentage of muscle and fat segmentally, indicating how it is distributed in each arm, leg and trunk as well as the percentage of visceral fat (fat surrounding your organs). A high visceral fat, the fat that is stored deep in the belly, contributes to greater health risks. These values are all helpful in assessing if you are at risk for heart disease, hypertension, liver disease and diabetes to name just a few.
You may be wondering what is the difference between intracellular and extracellular water and why is that important? Hopefully, most of the water jostling around inside of us is intracellular (inside the cells). We may experience symptoms such as fatigue, swelling, headache, increased heart rate, dry skin when we are high in extracellular fluids. That is because we are dehydrated when too much of our water is outside the cells. This also can cause our weight to fluctuate. The best way to maintain hydration, or to replenish intracellular fluids is to keep drinking water, especially electrolyte loaded water. Resurrection Health has other options you may want to consider for infusion therapy to improve hydration.
Our skeletal muscle mass (SMM-or dry lean muscle mass) is very important to overall improved health and weight control. Increased muscle mass increases our basal metabolic rate. Our “basal metabolic rate” is how much energy our body burns at rest. Muscle burns fat and calories more efficiently, that is why it is crucial to measure this value and watch your SMM (muscle mass) increase. This is the “positive feedback loop” of measuring (with the InBody 570 Analyzer), then making the decision and following through with diet and exercise to increase muscle mass and reassessing your results at a later time. More muscle equals better metabolism which equals better fat/calorie burning which equals looking and feeling your best. You can train your body to work better for you!
And the more you see results-on paper and feeling it in your body- the easier it becomes to improve and maintain as your body is working with you.
Obviously, a lower percentage of body fat is ideal for looking and feeling good and for decreasing health risks. We all need some fat but we know it is not healthy to carry around excessive fat. The InBody 570 can help win the battle against excess fat.
